The Colorado State Patrol has provided this etching kit as a way to deter thieves. Once the converter has had a unique number secured to it with this kit, that number is then registered online with the State patrol so that it if that converter is in fact stolen and then found, it can be traced with the possibility of it being returned to the original owner.
